Sunshine's Corner: Meri Crijma'

I love watching The Nightmare before Christmas because it reminds me that Christmas is so magical it can change any heart. I know it’s corny but I LOVE Navidad. Even here in the Island that we don’t experience a mayor climate change, Christmas is all around. It’s like when you’re baking a cake and you can smell it all through the house. I can smell Christmas and cookies and “coquito” and “lechón” and “arroz con gandules” and “pasteles” and “tembleque”!

I wish you all a great Crijma’ filled with parrandas and zero diets. It only comes once a year so what the heck, bring on the “cuerito”!

Sunshine's Corner- "Each of us builds our own prison or our own palace."

Hey guys this is my first post!! I'm excited :D!
Seeing as we're in the Christmas season I'd like to start by telling you about an inspirational message a co-worker and friend of mine sent me a couple of weeks ago. It spoke about a kind of truth we tend to forget. How our actions, words, and expressions follow us everywhere we go (like a shadow), even if it happened yesterday, a year ago, or just a few minutes.
Classic example: Did we greet the person in the elevator or did we just look up? Did we smile and thank the person who opened the door for us or did we just pass? What were we thinking about that made the whole lunch area at work silent and cold?
We forget that we emit an aura; intangible as it may be, beware the effects it can create, especially if it gets too dark. Our actions and moods DO affect everything and everyone around us.
My anecdote: It’s surprising to hear how many people are described with having a dark cloud surrounding them. An ex-coworker of mine was like that, unfortunately. It got to a point where no one came in contact with him, hisaura was too dense. Maybe, if he had read this piece of wisdom it would have done wonders...Here goes my insightful thought:
"Each of us builds our own prison or our own palace". If he had known he could control every expression and emotion he exuded the tables might have turned, because we all know he is a good person at heart. Unfortunately, not everyone realizes the effects our shadow creates.
That's why it's important to remember that WE CONTROL if we want to feel depressed over the douchebag who left us for no good reason, or anxious to finally have time to take those acting classes we always wanted. And what better way to start than by empowering your mind with a new motto, "An aura of beauty attracts beauty. An aura of love attracts love. An aura of life and joy attracts unbounded light".

Only you are the master of that aura, the sky is the limit!

Little Miss Sunshine

Saludos!

Sunshine is what fills my eyes in the morning, keeps me smiling during the day, and as it sets, calms my nerves after a hard days work. My mission in life is to exude rays of light as a guide, an inspiration or simply as a reminder of how extraordinary the world is.
Results of my determination: Happiness, peace and love in my life and hopefully the lives of those around me.

Have a good one!

The Autistic Melody

Last Sunday I was walking on the pier at the marina. Towards me walks this confused-looking man. In the many years that we’ve been coming to this marina, I had never seen him before! He was odd looking, a 40-something year-old man dressed in a sleeveless white shirt, sneakers and a man’s bikini... Yes, he was wearing a bikini in a place where you RARELY, if not to say NEVER, see men wearing bikinis!

As we got closer to each other, he smiled at me... and I smiled back. Not too much! His more-than-excited smile was like those people who can’t wait for the chance to talk to anybody. So I decided to quicken my step as if in a hurry and get to my car. After all, I really did had to go to the car before going for a sail.

I did notice something, though. He had a “special” look, he looked... different. Then I realized he had Autism. Nothing confusing or odd about it, just that his sense of fashion was a little off. One is always so quick to judge on appearance!

When I came back from the car he was still there, sitting on the pier. I started to hear music, not from the radio, it was live. A beautiful melody was being played. Suddenly, I felt as if I were inside a movie and the theme song started to play. As I walked by the man I saw that it was him who was playing... a red Concertina. A Concertina is like a small accordion, a squeezebox, the one that you have to open and close in order for it to make a sound. The notes are created when you press on its buttons while “squeezing” this instrument. I had never seen anyone play this instrument. At least not in front of me. Oh, but what a beautiful melody he was playing, so moving! Even more moving was the fact that he was “special”. This autistic man, whom I judged earlier on his appearance, suddenly became a beautiful person to me.

I’ve always thought that beauty has nothing to do with how you look, but has much to do with self-esteem. With the way we carry ourselves. I believe talent is what makes a person beautiful. Talent in music, painting, dancing, sports, writing, photography, graphic design... you name it. When people don’t show their true talent the become... ordinary. But when you let your talent shine... you transform into a beautiful human being. I believe everyone has talent, but not many of them show it.

As I reached the boat slip, I turned my eyes towards the sky and thanked God for giving me the pleasure of hearing this man’s musical talent through his red Concertina. His melody stuck on my head for the rest of the day.

Have you let your talent shine yet?

Los Cobitos Ya Tienen Sus Casitas

cobito
